Review Guidelines

Review Policy

United Journal of Chemistry follows a double-blind peer review process, ensuring that the identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential throughout the review. Neither party is informed of the other’s identity at any stage of the evaluation process.

Checklist for Peer Reviewers

Before agreeing to review a manuscript, please confirm that:

  • You have no conflicts of interest.
  • You understand and agree to comply with the journal’s confidentiality requirements.
  • You are familiar with the fundamental principles of peer review.

While reviewing the manuscript, please consider the following:

  • Does the manuscript demonstrate strong scientific quality and reliability?
  • Is the manuscript clearly written and properly structured?
  • Are the authors affiliated with credible institutions?
  • Are references appropriate and complete, and is the manuscript free from plagiarism?
  • Does the manuscript align with the aims and scope of the journal?
  • Does the manuscript contain any inappropriate or disqualified content?
  • Does the study meet applicable ethical standards?

Additional requirements:

  • The review must consist of at least one substantial paragraph.
  • The review should reflect thorough critical evaluation of the manuscript.
  • Do not explicitly state whether the manuscript should be accepted or rejected.
  • Reviews that do not meet these standards may not be considered by the Editor-in-Chief or Associate Editor.

Fundamental Principles of Peer Review

Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and unbiased feedback to ensure that the conclusions presented in the manuscript are valid, supported by data, and meet acceptable scientific standards. The evaluation should primarily focus on the scientific merit of the work.

Scientific Quality and Credibility

The arguments and conclusions must be logically sound and supported either by data presented in the manuscript or by appropriate references to previously published research. The manuscript should be written in clear, precise, and appropriate scientific language.

Readability and Presentation

The manuscript should be well-organized and easy to understand. If the writing quality is inadequate, reviewers may recommend language editing as a condition for publication.

Referencing and Plagiarism

Manuscripts must not include previously published material without proper citation. If potential plagiarism is detected, reviewers should report it to the journal’s editorial office for further investigation by the Editor-in-Chief.

Suitability for the Journal

The manuscript should clearly fall within the aims and scope of United Journal of Chemistry. Additionally, its publication should not negatively impact the reputation of the journal, whether due to its content or related works published elsewhere by the same author(s).

Data Validation

The results presented in the manuscript should be reproducible and supported by adequate experimental or analytical evidence.

Author Credentials

Authors must clearly disclose their institutional affiliations and should be associated with recognized public or private institutions.

Disqualified Content

Manuscripts containing unscientific material or content generally regarded as pseudoscience will not be considered for publication under any circumstances. This list is not exhaustive.

If such content is identified, reviewers should clearly indicate this in their report.

Ethical Considerations

Authors must confirm compliance with all relevant ethical standards, particularly those concerning research involving human participants or animals, both at the time of submission and prior to publication.

Conflict of Interest Policy

Reviewers must decline an invitation to review if they are unable to provide an objective and impartial assessment.

If a potential conflict of interest becomes apparent after accepting the review, the reviewer must immediately notify the journal’s editorial office and discontinue the review process. Reviewers with conflicts of interest must not recommend alternative reviewers.

Financial and Commercial Conflicts of Interest

A reviewer is considered to have a conflict of interest and is therefore ineligible to review a manuscript if, within the past two years, they have had any financial or commercial relationship that could influence their judgment. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Consultancy roles
  • Employment relationships
  • Expert testimony
  • Honoraria or retainers
  • Stock ownership or options
  • Membership on boards of profit-driven organizations with a financial interest in the subject of the manuscript

Professional and Institutional Conflicts

A reviewer is disqualified if:

  • They have been employed at the same institution as any author within the past 24 months.
  • They have co-authored any publication (including articles, book chapters, abstracts, posters, or monographs) with any author within the past 48 months.

Personal and Familial Relationships

A reviewer is disqualified if:

  • They have a close personal relationship with any author.
  • They are related by family to any of the authors.

Additional Grounds for Disqualification

A reviewer may not undertake a peer review if:

  • They have been subject to a professional disciplinary proceeding.
  • They are not actively working in the relevant field of the manuscript.
  • They serve, or have served within the past 12 months, on the editorial board of any journal where one of the manuscript’s authors also serves.
  • They are the Editor-in-Chief or an Associate Editor of the journal to which the manuscript has been submitted.
