The aim of this study was to determine Vitamin C content of different species of bananas,mangoes and Oranges sold in Lafia metropolis.Samples of different species of bananas, mangoes and Oranges were collected from various market and selling point in Lafia metropolis.The vitamin C content was determined using iodometry method of titration.This study revieved significant variation in vitamin C content among different species with the range:bananas(6.34±0.2 to 9.83mg/100mL), Mangoes (23.80±2.0 to 58.11± 9.5mg/100mL), Oranges (33.67±4.0 to 51.07±10.2 mg/100mL). Generally mangoes and Oranges had highest content of vitamin C than bananas.Among the fruits,Fazli mango (58.11±9.5mg/100mL) had highest content of vitamin C but Dwarf Cavendish banana (6.34±0.2mg/100mL) had the least content of vitamin C. This study demonstrated the effectiveness of iodometry titration method in determining vitamin C content in some fruits sold in Lafia metropolis.This finding can be used to promote the consumption of fruits rich in vitamin C, particularly among population with high demand for this essential nutrients such as pregnant women, children,and individual with specific dietary requirements.It can also offer valuable information to the food industry.
